Abstract Details

To evaluate the changes in central corneal thickness (CCT) in patients who were performed posterior capsulotomy, following uncomplicated cataract surgery.

Okmeydanı Training and Research Hospital, Istanbul, Turkey

A total of 84 eyes of 62 patients (44 female, 18 male), who had uncomplicated cataract surgery were included in the study. The mean age of the patients was 62.3 (36-79) years. At least 6 months were waited after the cataract surgery to perform capsulotomy. The energy values of the YAG laser was noted, and the CCT for each patient was measured before the laser and at 1st day, 1st week, 1st month and 6th months.

Significant CCT changes were detected in 15 eyes at the 1st day after laser application (mean change:2.5% increase). This change was correlated with the energy values.

Early term significant CCT changes may be the result of the energy values used in ND:YAG laser posterior capsulotomy. The minimum effective energy value should be preferred, when performing the laser capsulotomy
