Abstract Details

To evaluate neutrophil lymphocyte ratio(NLR) in patients with vernal keratoconjunctivitis (vernal KK).

Cankiri state hospital ophthalmology department.

Thirty eyes of 30 patients untreated at least six months (vernal group) and thirty eyes of 30 healthy controls (control group) were examined in this study. Demographic data and type of vernal KK for each case were recorded. NLR was calculated using hemogram values.

There was no significant difference in terms of age and gender between groups. 15 of all vernal cases (%50) have limbal disease, 5 of those (%16,7) have palpebral disease and 10 of those (%33,3) have mix vernal KK. NLR was 1.2±0.6 in vernal group and 1.7±0.9 in control group. NLR was significantly lower in vernal group(p=0.04). There was no significant correlation between type of vernal KK and NLR.

NLR has been found to be lower in patients with vernal KK than healthy controls. It is concluded that lymphocyte-weighted ocular inflammation may be associated with systemic predisposition or systemic reaction.
