To study whether conventional patching treatment can improve visual function in adults with amblyopia.

Krishna Eye Care, Mumbai, India

27 patients with amblyopic eyes in age group 25–57years were instructed to patch the non-amblyopic eye for at least 2 hours per day and to wear glasses for refractive correction regularly.Visual acuity was checked for distance and near every 3 months and followed for 18 months.Any improvement of 1 or more lines for distance n near visual acuity were evaluated.

Of 27 patients, vision of 7 improved by 2 or more lines,4 improved by 1 line, and 11 improved by 1/2 a line on the distant vision chart.

Conventional patching treatment does improve the visual acuity of amblyopic eyes even in adult patients.
