Abstract Details

Purpose:

To describe the ocular biometric characteristics of patients with cataract.

Setting:

Department of ophthalmology, Matini Hospital kashan, Iran

Methods:

In a cross-sectional study during 2013-2015. 4045,adult patients with mean age, 52±6 years (age range 40-83 years) enrolled in study. Inclusion criteria were age more than 40 years with cataract and exclusion criteria were corneal opacity, axial length less than 21 millimeter (mm) and more than 27 mm, previous intraocular surgery, any other associated ocular diseases that affect the biometric parameters. Axial length, keratometry, radius of curvatures of cornea, central corneal thickness (CCT), anterior chamber depth (ACD), intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation. Were measured using lenstar (Hagg streit). Data were collected and analyzed with student t-test.

Results:

Mean age of patients was 56± 8 years, mean axial length who 22.82±1.56 mm (range 21-26.5 mm), average mean k 43.56±1.56 diopters, mean ACD 2.62 mm (range 1.7-3.4 mm), mean CCC was 560µm and mean IOL power calculated was 20.5 (range 17.5-26 D). Mean corneal astigmatism was 1.1±0.7 diopters that increased with increasing ages.

Conclusions:

this study provides baseline information of ocular biometric characteristics in adult patients with cataract for more clinical studies.
