Abstract Details

Purpose:

Find out utility of Excimer Laser in four cases of corneal opacities secondary to Adenovirus infection that cause important loss of visual acuity, and were treated with PTK / PRK excimer laser.

Setting:

Oftalmologia Consulting. Hospital Clínic, Clinica Corachan. Barcelona

Methods:

Four patients with corneal opacities secondary to adenovirus infection and irregular astigmatism alterations in the corneal surface were treated with PTK / PRK depending on the previous refractive state of each patient. The ablation depth was calculated after study with OCT of the subepithelial lesions in the central area of the cornea (6 mm).

Results:

The four patients improved corrected visual acuity. Visual acuity improve from 0.2 to 0.65 after the excimer laser treatment. Refraction of 2.15 diopters suffered hipermetropización half. The grade of elimination of corneal opacities in the central area of 6 mm improved in all four cases, without getting obtain a completely free central zone opacities in any case.

Conclusions:

Excimer laser treatment with PTK / PRK is useful for improving visual acuity in corneal opacities secondary to adenovirus.infections
