Abstract Details


Viral keratitis caused by the family of Herpes viruses including Herpes simplex virus, Varicella Zoster, Epstein-Barr and Cytomegalovirus; they can cause a wide variety of clinical appearance, representing a diagnostic challenge. Herpetic epithelial keratitis may manifest in atypical presentations that include: marginal ulcers, multiple microdendrites, or “achipelago keratitis”.

We report two cases of “archipelago keratitis” one associated with herpes zoster ophthalmic and the other with Herpes Simplex


Both cases slowly responded to topical and systemic antiviral and anti-inflammatory therapy.


Archipelago keratitis may present with a variety of clinical features Early diagnosis of atypical herpetic ocular disease prevents scarring that can compromise vision and cause ocular comorbidities
