Abstract Details

Purpose:

To do quantification and assess the effect of conventional corneal cross-linking on progression of keratoconus.

Setting:

We reviewed 62 eyes of 42 patients between 14 to 26 yrs of age for 2 years. Conventional cross-linking was done according to standard regime . Patients were followed on Pentacam HR at SunEye Hospital ,Lucknow ,India .

Methods:

Patients reviewed on Pentacam HR every 3 monthly. Flat ,steep and mean axis were targeted . patients with corneal scarring and opacities were excluded. Final Pentacam HR readings were taken after 2 years of follow-up.

Results:

There was reduction in Flat Axis,Steep Axis and Mean axis of 1.75D , 2.29D and 2.02D respectively .Mean keratometric improvement of more than 0.5 D on pentacam HR was labelled significant. 56% patients fell in the above category . 23% patients showed no change . 21% patients deteriorated.

Conclusions:

Corneal cross-linking in keratoconus is effective way to stop the progression . 56% patients showed improvement on keratometric readings. 23% patients there were no progression. only 21% patients deteriorated despite cross-linking.
