Abstract Details


To describe a new corneal ring that simplifies alcohol-assisted corneal epithelial debridement and protects corneal limbus during corneal collagen cross-linking (CCL)

The corneal ring is gently fit on cornea and upper part of the ring was filled with 20% ethanol for 30 seconds. A cotton tip applicator is applied to dry the surface and the ring is removed in order to use at ultraviolet A (UV-A) treatment procedure. Irrigation is performed with 20 ml balanced salt solution before the epithelium was removed gently. The corneal ring is fit just before UV-A irradiation and hold on the cornea during CCL.


The corneal ring createdthe optimal conditions for successful corneal cross linking and protected the cornea from further damage, and created optimal conditions for regularized and smooth corneal epithelium healing.


The using of a new corneal ring can be a useful method in CCL by two ways: Facilitating alcohol-assisted epithelial debridement of cornea and corneal limbal protection during CCL.
