Infectious crystalline keratitis after corneal cross-linking for keratoconus

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To report a case of infectious crystalline keratitis after cornea cross- linking for keratoconus

Setting:

Government tertiary eye center

Methods:

A case report

Results:

A 20 year old young male under went a cornea cross linking procedure for both eyes as a treatment for his progressive keratoconus who developed corneal infiltrates in the form of crystalline keratopathy. In his left eye.He received cornea scraping and started on fortified topical antibiotics.he resolved with resultant superficial corneal scarring

Conclusions:

Cornea cross linking is a safe procedure with reported significant efficiency in halting the progression of keratoconus,microbial keratitis had been reported as a complication of this procedure.infectious crystalline keratopatopathy was not reported in English ophthalmology literature post cornea cross linking.prolonged course of improvement may result in significant decrease of visual acuity as a result of corneal scarring.
