Abstract Details

In order to assess the efficacy, indications as well as potential complications of Sutureless Femto-asissted anterior Lameller keratoplasty (FALK) after one year of follow-up

Nour El Hayat Eye Center, Cairo-Egypt

Patients recruited in this study had corneal opacities not exceeding in depth the anterior 2/3 of total corneal thickness assessed by anterior segment OCT. A total of 25 eyes of 22 patients were operated using the Victus Basuch & Lomb femtosecond laser. A difference of 0.3mm diameter between the patient's excised cornea and the donor's graft. Also, the thickness of the donor's graft was more by 15% than the patient's removed cornea

All patients had an improved uncorrected and best corrected visual acuity after surgery except in one eye. In this case we had to re-suture the graft and unfortunately with unsatisfactory outcome which we are obliged to schedule the patient for penetrating graft. All cases showed a clear cornea however; an interface persisted in the al anterior OCT images was seen even after one year of follow-up

FALK is an emerging technique with a very promising results. A clear indication should be identified to avoid irregular corneal outcome.
