Abstract Details

Purpose:

Evaluate the clinical results of toric intraocular lenses (TIOL) implantation of patients with corneal astigmatism.

Setting:

Kazakh scientific research institute of eye diseases

Methods:

We observed 103 eyes aged 30 to 76 years. All patients were divided into 2 groups: 1- 47 eyes - soft intraocular lens implanted. 2- 56 soft TIOL implanted. The scatter in the values of corneal astigmatism in group 1 ranged from 1.0 dioptres (dpt) to 2.5, in second - from 1.0 to 3.0 dpt. Maximum corrugated visual acuity in group 1 was 0.1 to 0.8, in second - 0.08 to 0.9. By biomicroscopy turbidity in different parts of the lens was observed at all patients. Operation technology carried out by conventional methods. The postoperative period was uneventful and uncomplicated.

Results:

In the early postoperative period visual acuity and refraction was assessed. The final results were assessed one month after surgery. Keratometry Data of all patients virtually unchanged. Refractometry data in group 1 ranged from 1.0 to 2.75 diopters, in group 2 - from 0 to 0.25 diopters. In 60% of cases the residual cylindrical component - 0.25 diopters. Non-corrugated visual acuity in group 1 – from 0.1 to 0.6, in group 2 - from 0.7 to 1.0. Maximum corrugated visual acuity in group 1- from 0.4 to 1.0, in group 2 - from 0.8 to 1.0

Conclusions:

Thus, the resulting toric IOL implantation in the initial astigmatism of 1 to 3 dioptres full correction of astigmatism is achieved in 40% of cases. In 60% of the residual astigmatism was 0.25 diopters. The use of toric IOLs in cataract surgery has allowed to reach high functional results when combined cataract with corneal astigmatism.
