All patients enrolled under this scheme for a period of three years are taken up.The profile of the patients and their experience is noted by a questionare. It was a prospective study at our tertiary eye care centre.Total of 2536 eyes were enrolled from april 2012 to march 2015.The operating surgeon was masked as he was not aware which patient was under the RSBY scheme. Regular paid operations were conducted in tandem. We note d the surgical outcome by the best corrected visual acuity at the end of 7 days and 28 days.

Statistical calculation was done using the SPSS software.p value<0.05 was considered significant.95.7 % patients had a post operative vision of 6/9or better.1.3% had amblyopia of different degree.Though vision was between 6/60 to 6/18 but still they were happy.2.1%patients had some form of age related macular degenaration.79.3% of AMD patients were unhappy. All the results r statistically significantp<0.05.

Overall this scheme is of tremendous benefit, particularly to the financially weaker sections of the society .Vast majority of the patients are benefited. This has paved the way by which the financially weak masses can now avail state of the art facilities.
