Hard cataract is quit difficult for phaco .This study compare visual outcomes between the two ways as we know the postoperative asigmatism is the most important cause for low visual acuity after cataract surgery.

Methods:

50 patient with hard cataract underwent for cataract surgery, the preoperative visual acuity ranged between light perception and hand movement,Group A 25 cases underwent for phaco Emulsification cataract surgery with fold able IOL. Group B 25 cases underwent for cataract surgery through 6mm straight sclero-corneal tunnel cataract surgery with posterior chamber IOL. The uncorrected and best corrected visual acuity were measured as well as refracto keratometery are performed at each examination time,1 week, 1 month,2 month and after 6 month.

Results:

Th average uncorrected visual acuity in group A was 6/60 in 1 week,6/36 in 1 month ,6/18 in 2 month and 6/6 at 6 month while in group B was 6/36 in 1 week , 6/18 at 1 month and 2 month and 6/9 after 6 month.
