Abstract Details

Purpose:

To determine visual performance of diffractive multifocal intraocular lens with +3.0 D and +3.5 D add on power.

Setting:

Modi Eye Care Centre, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India.

Methods:

This is retrospective single centric study compare the bilateral and unilateral cataract surgery with implantation of SQFL600DF - diffractive multifocal IOL (+3.0 D and +3.5 D add on power). Above age 40 who were undergone for cataract surgery with diffractive multifocal IOL having +3.0 D and +3.5 D add on power with 6 month follow up have been included into the study. The main outcome measures were binocular uncorrected and best corrected distance visual acuity along with, uncorrected Intermediate (UIVA) and near visual acuity (UNVA). Post-operative complication and patient quality of life were also observed.

Results:

Out of 73 cataract surgery, IOL with +3.0 D was implanted in 37 eyes whereas IOL +3.5 D was implanted in 36 eyes. UDVA and UIVA with +3.0 D were found significantly better than +3.5 D IOL. No significant difference of UNVAwas observed amongst these group. Out of 73 cataract surgery, PCO has been diagnosed in 6 eyes after two year post surgery which were corrected by ND Yag laser. Patient quality of life was found excellent to contentment in 75% and 25% patient respectively.

Conclusions:

Cataract surgery with +3.0 D shows better distance and intermediate vision than +3.5 D without influencing near visual acuity.
