Abstract Details

Purpose:

Evaluation of the quantity and timing of rotation using single peace hydrophobic acrylic toric intraocular lens (IOL) postoperatively.

Setting:

Setting:

Department of Ophthalmology, Dokkyo Medical University, Tochigi, Japan.

Methods:

This study is a retrospective study. Cataract surgerys with implantation of TECNIS® Toric IOLs (Abbott Medical Optics) were performed to 60 eyes (51 people) by a same surgeon. Excluded criteria is other ophthalmic diseases and irregular corneal astigmatism. Refractive value was measured using auto refractometer (KR-8800, TOPCON), and astigmatism, visual acuities were measured preoperatively and 1 day, 1 week, and 1 month postoperatively. Quantity of rotation from target axis was measured immediately on the end of surgery, 1 day and 1 month postoperatively. Paired t-test, Student’s t-test, Dunnett's test and Tukey's test was selected for statistical analysis.

Results:

The mean quantity of corneal astigmatism at preoperatively, 1 day, 1 week and 1 month postoperatively are 1.32±0.50D, 0.83±0.53D, 0.71±0.54D, 0.54±0.46D respectively. Astigmatism were decreased on all selected period after surgery (P<0.01). Quantity of rotation for the target axis at the end of surgery, 1 day and 1 month postoperatively are 1.97±1.95°, 7.10±7.10°, 7.67±7.48°respectively. The significant rotation was recognized between the end of surgery and 1 day postoperatively(P<0.01).

Conclusions:

The significant rotation of the toric IOL occurred within 1 day after surgery. To increase the accuracy of toric IOL, prevention of rotation light after the surgery.
