BSS volume and phacoemulsification time for grid pattern lens fragmentation in femtolaser-assisted cataract surgery

to evaluate ultrasound time and BSS volume during femtolaser assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) in Brazil

Non-randomized prospective study of 104 eyes (48 patients) that underwent FLACS divided in two groups: Group I (n=51), surgery with grid pattern lens fragmentation and lens aspiration without ultrasonic emulsification and group II (n=54), surgery with grid pattern lens fragmentation and lens aspirationwith ultrasonic emulsification. BSS volume, time of surgery, emulsification, and endotelial cell count were compared in both groups.


total surgery time and BSS volume are significantly higher in group I than in group II(p&It;0,05). Ultrasound time are significantly higher in Group II. Posoperative endothelialcell count at 1 month was not significantly diferente in both Groups (P>0.05)


ultrasound free FLACS lead to higher surgical times but did not increase endotelial cell loss in this study.
