Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the first-in-man use of an new capsulotomy device's ability to consistently create a circular free cap with a well-centerd round capsulotomy without tags.

Setting:

Private practice in San Salvador, El Salvador

Methods:

A total of 10 patients requiring routine cataract surgery were enrolled in the study. The surgeries were videoed. The videos were analyzed. The patients were followed postoperatively for one month.

Results:

The new capsulotomy device was able to create round, well-centered capsulotomies without any residual tags in the first 10/10 cases in human eyes. The device was able to make the capsulotomy under the iris after being passed through a pupil smaller than the intended capusulotomy.

Conclusions:

This new capsulotomy device consistently created a round, strong, well-centered capsulotomy without residual tags. It may present a new option for an automated capsulotomy.
