Abstract Details

To analyze the pattern of corneal astigmatism and biometry data in cataract surgery candidates from Turkey

Afyon Kocatepe University, Afyonkarahisar, Turkey

The axial length (AL), anterior chamber depth (ACD) and corneal power (keratometry [K], flat K, steep K) were optically measured by partial coherence interferometry (AL-Scan; Nidek). Ocular biometric data were collected and analyzed between 2014 and 2016.

The study comprised 448 eyes of 312 patients consecutive cataract candidates with a mean age of 65.83 years ± 12.04 (SD)(range 28 to 90 years). The mean AL and ACD 23.57 ± 1.44 mm and 3.22 ± 0.47 mm respectively. The mean K value was 43.45 ± 2.49 D. The mean corneal astigmatism was 0.85 D (0.05-4.95). Corneal astigmatism was between 0.50 D and 3 in 38.4% eyes, 1 D and 3 D in 29.9% of eyes, 3 D or higher in 1.3% eyes, and less than 0.50 D in 38.4% of eyes.

This study provides reference data for cataract patients from Turkey. The datas of ocular biometric data and corneal astigmatism may improve surgical procedures and intraocular lens design for the Turkish population.
