Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate safety and efficacy of Y intrascleral haptic fixation technique in cases of poor or no capsular support.

Setting:

Ophthalmology Department, Flor Ferenc Hospital, Kistarcsa, Hungary

Methods:

Retrospective evaluation of six cases of poor or no capsular support were operated between September 2014 and December 2015. Y-fixation technique were used for intrascleral haptic fixation. Preoperative and postoperative refraction, best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and postoperative complications were recorded.

Results:

Three cases of traumatic subluxated cataract and three cases of aphakia after complicated cataract surgery were operated. Mean preoperative refraction were +7,9 diopter (between 0 and +13,0 diopters), mean preoperative BCVA 0,54 (0,04-1,0), mean postoperative refraction were -1,16 diopters cylinder (-5,0 – 0), mean postoperative BCVA were 0,65 (0,15-1,0). Postoperative complications were secondary glaucom (4 cases), macular oedema (2 cases). Branch retinal venous occlusion were noted during postoperative period in one case.

Conclusions:

Although Y-fixation technique is simpler than other scleral haptic fixation techniques thorough follow up is needed to avoid visual loss caused by late postoperative complications.
