Abstract Details

Purpose:

With the rapid increasing of presbyopia patients without cataract, especially at ages of 50 to 65 years old, there have been findings on presbyopia and refractive error correction. We implanted multifocal phakic IOL for presbyopia patients in our study.

Setting:

Minoru Tomita Eye Clinic Ginza, Tokyo, Japan

Methods:

We have conducted a retrospective study during 2014 and 2015. Eleven (11) presbyopia patients, of which 21 eyes, were performed the multifocal phakic IOL implantation. All these patients were regularly checked up and have followed up within the period of 6 months. The pre-operative and post-operative data, including uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA), intraocular pressure (IOP), and corneal endothelial counts, were analyzed statistically and properly.

Results:

Mean of UDVA and UNVA was respectively 20/20, and J3 at postoperative 6 months. Spherical equivalent (SE) was -0.25±0.60D at postoperative for 6 months. No difference was found, in so far as mean corneal endothelial counts, before and after the operation, thus counts remain unchanged.

Conclusions:

The clinical results of multifocal phakic IOL show significant improvement for UDVA and UNVA. In our study, we find the clinical value of multifocal phakic IOL implantation for presbyopia patients.
