Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the clinical safety profile and visual quality outcomes of Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) V4C model over one year.

Setting:

Tertiary eye care center, Bangalore, India

Methods:

Retrospective analysis was done for fifty-one eyes of subjects with ICL V4C model (STAAR Surgical, Nidau, Switzerland). The evaluation included uncorrected and best corrected visual acuity (UCVA and BCVA), spherical and cylindrical refractive errors, slit-lamp examination and tonometry. Imaging modalities included specular microscopy (Tomey, Nagoya, Japan), Optical Coherence Tomography (Casia SS-1000 OCT, Tomey, Japan), Scheimpflug imaging (Pentacam, Oculus Optikgerate GmbH, Wetzlar, Germany), scanning slit topography (Orbscan IIz, Bausch and Lomb, USA), and ray tracing aberrometry (iTrace, Tracey Technologies, Houston, TX). Data collected pre-operatively and on post-operative day one, six weeks and one year was assessed.

Results:

Pre-operatively the mean spherical equivalent(SE) was -11.44 diopters(D) ± 4.73 standard deviation(SD). Post-operatively mean SE was -0.4±0.68D at 6 weeks and -0.27±0.47D at one year. Mean UCVA and BCVA were 1.57±0.51 and 0.16±0.16 logMAR respectively pre-operatively which improved to 0.20±0.19 and 0.08±0.10 at 6 weeks and 0.19±0.14 and 0.08±0.19 at 1 year. Mean Area Under Curve of Modulation Transfer Function(MTF) for the entire eye was 2.63±0.19 pre-operatively and 5.89±2.79 at one year. Mean Strehl Ratio was 0.001±0.001 pre-operatively and 0.051±0.067 at one year. The mean vault at six weeks was 624±216µ and at one year it was 547±205µ.

Conclusions:

ICL V4C model was found to be safe and had quality of vision parameters were also found to be within acceptable limits till the end of one year.
