Abstract Details

To determine macular thickness changes after posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens implantation for the correction of high myopia using spectral domain optical coherence tomography (OCT).

Institut CatalĂ  de Retina(ICR), Barcelona, Spain

Prospective study was conducted in 111 eyes of 58 patients underwent implantation of the implantable Collamer lens (ICL). Patients were evaluated before surgery and after surgery at week 4 and week 12. Visual acuity (VA) and macular cube optical coherence tomography were measured.

After lens implantation there was an improvement in visual acuity and no changes in macular thickness and macular volume. There was no case of cystoid macular edema.

Theimplantation of ICL has been shown to be an effective surgical option for the treatment of refractive errors. No cases of macular edema develops after surgery in patients. The spectral domain optical coherence tomography was notable to detect any increase in macular thickness in thestudy period.
