Abstract Details

Purpose:

To analyze the predictability, efficacy and safety of ICL implantation in Latin America.

Setting:

Instituto de la Vision, Buenos Aires, Argentina, CODET Vision, Tijuana, Mexico, Centro Oftalmologico Carriazo, Barranquilla, Colombia, Clinica Dr. Ferroni, Rosario, Argentina, Eye Clinic Day Hospital, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Centrovision, Mendoza, Argentina

Methods:

Outcomes on 180 cases with Visian ICL V4C phakic IOL (Staar Surgical Company™, CA, USA) implantation have been analyzed. These cases were performed by different Latin American high volume surgeons. We analyzed the results at 6 hours, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year postoperatively.

Results:

Preoperative uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) was 0.06±0.05 and best spectacle corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 0.77±0.09. Preoperative spherical refraction was -9.40±1.45D and cylindrical refraction was -1.91±0.17D. Preoperative anterior chamber depth was 3.20±0.05 mm. Preoperative expected spherical and cylindrical refraction were -075±0.29D and -1.03 ± 0.99D respectively. Postoperative 1 day UCVA was 0.79±0.11. At 3 months, UCVA and BCVA were 0.88±0.11 and 0.93 ±0.07 respectively; spherical and cylindrical refraction were -0.07 ± 0.59D and -0.22 ± 0.63D respectively. We also analyzed predictability, safety, efficiency and vaulting of the IOL.

Conclusions:

This is the first Latin American multicenter study about Visian ICL V4C implantation. Our results have shown that it's a predictable, efficient and safe procedure to correct high to moderate myopias and myopic astigmatism.
