Abstract Details


To evaluate of early postoperative light scattering in recent productions of new 3 types of yellow-tinted hydrophobic acrylic intraocular lenses (IOLs).

This study included 89 eyes (48 patients) who had cataract surgery. Three types of yellow-tinted hydrophobic acrylic IOLs, SZ-1 (17 eyes), W-60 (24 eyes) and ZCB00V (36 eyes) were implanted. The slit images were photographed 1 weeks, 1, 3, and 6 months after implantation using EAS1000 (NIDEK) and were measured light scattering in the surface (sub-surface nano glistening) and middle (glistening) regions of IOL . IOLs were compared the rate of increase in light scattering from 1 weeks to 6 months after implantation. And the elevations ratio light scattering from 1 week to 6 months postoperatively were calculated and compared.


The surface scatterings (6 months postoperatively) of SZ-1, W-60 and ZCB00V were 1.23±0.65, 8.52±1.95 and 2.86±1.10 CCT respectively. The surface scattering of SZ-1 was significantly less than W-60. The middle scatterings (6 months postoperatively) were 1.90±1.00, 8.69±1.98 and 3.73±1.99 CCT respectively. The middle scattering of SZ-1 was significantly less than W-60. The elevations ratio light scattering were low in all groups and there were no statistically significance.


Sub-surface nano glisteninand glistening of new yellow-tinted hydrophobic acrylic IOLs were different among IOLs. However, the elevations ratios were fine and the results suggest that the three IOLs have a stable material.
