Abstract Details

Purpose:

to evaluate the incidence of cataract in patients with implantable Collamer Lens (ICL, STAAR Surgical)

Setting:

Clinica Privada de Ojos, Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina

Methods:

This study evaluates two series of cases of patients who underwent ICL (models V2, V3and V4) implantation for myopia and hyperopia. First series includes 108 eyes, implanted between 1996 and 2000. Second series includes 344 eyes, implanted between 2005 and 2013.

Results:

In the first series: model V2, 22 eyes; 3 develop cataract (13%), model V3, 41 eyes; 9 develop cataract (21,95%), model V4, 45 eyes; 2 eyes develop catartact (4,44%). Second series: model V4, 344 eyes; 6 eyes develop cataract (2%)

Conclusions:

The incidence of cataract formation have been reduced with the new models of ICL
