Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare the magnitude of astigmatic correction, toric axis deviation and refractive and visual outcomes after implantation of toric IOLs with different designs

Setting:

Asian Eye Institute, Philippines

Methods:

183 eyes of 127 patients with at least 1.0D of corneal astigmatism were implanted with either a monofocal C-loop toric (Envista toric, Bausch and Lomb), multifocal C-loop toric (Restor Toric, Alcon) or multifocal double C-loop toric (Finevision Toric, Physiol) IOL. In addition to manifest refraction and vision testing, pupils were dilated and postoperative axis position was documented and compared to the intended axis obtained from the toric IOL calculator and used during surgery. Any difference between the two was considered axis deviation. Main outcome measures were manifest refraction, magnitude of cylinder reduction, UDVA, BCDVA and axis deviation.

Results:

At one year, mean MRSE was +0.13D for the Envista toric, -0.14D for the Restor Toric and -0.11D for the Finevision Toric. Mean percent cylinder reduction was 40% for the Envista toric, 57% for the Restor Toric and 60% for the Fineivsion toric. Mean UDVA was 20/30 for the Envista toric and Restor Toric and 20/25 for the Finevison Toric. Mean axis deviation was 3.14 + 3.02 for the Envista Toric, 3.07 + 2.55 for the Restor Toric and 3.4 + 2.75 for the Finevision Toric. 3.4 + 2.75 (p=0.895)

Conclusions:

Refractive and visual outcomes were good. All three toric IOL platforms significantly reduced the magnitude of refractive astigmatism and showed no statistical difference in terms of rotational stability.
