Abstract Details

Purpose:

To report clinical use of transscleral suture (TSS) across the posterior chamber intraocular lens(PCIOL) in case of a tilted intraocular lens(IOL) after scleral fixation of IOL and iris captured IOL.

Setting:

Bora Eye Hospital, Gwangju, Korea

Methods:

We made a suture that passes across the IOL at pars plana 2mm apart from the limbus to support the IOL to reduce the astigmatism. In case of a scleral fixated IOL with tilting, a thread pass under the IOL. In case of anteriorly captured IOL with iris, a thread pass over the IOL to prevent anterior displacement of IOL.

Results:

The main advantage of this technique is that tilted IOL after scleral fixation could be corrected rather than replacement of IOL. Another advantage is the additional support for the IOL. In case of captured IOL to iris, the result is very effective.

Conclusions:

This technique could reduce the astigmatism in case of a tilted IOL and prevent iris from capturing with IOL in case of recurrent captured IOL.
