Abstract Details

Purpose:

To study the effect of phacoemulsification combined with 23G silicone oil removal and intraocular lens implantation on the diabetic vitrectomy eyes with silicone oil tamponade.

Setting:

Zagazig Univeristy, Egypt

Methods:

Forty cases (35 patients) performed phacoemulsification combined silicon oil remove and intraocular lens implantation, retinal laser photo-coagulation, SF6 gas tamponade, were retrospectively studied and followed back for 2-18 months for visual improvement. The safety was evaluated by recording intraoperative and postoperative complication rates, including bleeding, recurrence of retinal detachment, hypotony, choroidal detachment, corneal edema, endophthalmitis, vitreous hemorrhage, conjunctival injection, and subconjunctival hemorrhage.

Results:

All patient showd improvement of visual auity.None of the patients developed postoperative retinal detachment, hypotony, choroidal detachment, corneal edema, endophthalmitis, or vitreous hemorrhage.

Conclusions:

Phacoemulsification combined with 23G silicone oil removal and intraocular lens implantation is safe and effective in the diabetic vitrectomy eyes with silicone oil tamponade
