Abstract Details

Purpose:

Demonstrate and evaluate the equation defined by Prado, RB et al whose graph of keratometry (K) based on the axial lenght (AL) is defined by the following equation K = 52.91 Ă— -0385 AL (mm).

Setting:

All surgeries were performed in the Sadalla Amin Ghanem eye hospital - Joinville - Santa Catarina - Brazil

Methods:

From a biometer optical OcuScan® RXP Ophthalmic Ultrasound System from Alcon Laboratories started validation. In reason not availability of portable auto keratometer, the equation became the starting point for the IOL power calculation in our service. Through biometrics immersion technique is obtained AL. This value is interpolated equation above to calculate Keratomery. Thus, there are the two principal variables what allowed the calculation of the IOL dioptric power.

Results:

The results until the moment show a slight variation refractive around the target to age. The statistical analysis is ongoing and will be discussed later in the presentation. There is no outlier values in children that evaluation enabled by interferometry. The value of k defined by the equation shown in refractive clinical analysis that the IOL effective diopter power is as expected before the surgery.

Conclusions:

This equation demonstrates a safe and effective form of IOL implantation in children when not is possible a portable device to calculate Keratomery.
