Abstract Details

Purpose:

To describe different OCT patterns of LASIK Flap-related complications using the high resolution Swept-Source Anterior Segment OCT.

Setting:

AlForsan Eye Centre, Assiut, Egypt

Methods:

Ten eyes of ten patients with either intraoperative or postoperative flap related LASIK complications underwent imaging using swept-source anterior segment optical coherence tomography. 3mm line, 6mm line & radial scans were used for OCT images acquisition.

Results:

Epithelial ingrowth showed islands, nests or sheet of highly reflective interface lesions without flap invasion,if subepithelial fibrosis occured, flap invasion&corneal thining are identified.Macrostriae showed stromal dome shaped irregularities with or without flap edge displacement.Microstriae showed stromal angulation with regular epithelium. One eye showed traumatic folded flap with flap edge at interface.Inert interface debris is highly reflective with or without stromal infiltration. One case with intraoperative torn and lost flap showed epithelization over a thin remaining stroma at the second postoperative day below the contact lens without stromal infiltration.

Conclusions:

Swept-Source Anterior Segment OCT provides high resolution images with specific patterns of flap related LASIK complications as microstriae, macrostriae, epithelial ingrowth & flap scarring.
