Abstract Details

Purpose:

Clinical evaluation of functional results and quality of vision after bilateral implantation of a bioanalogic, polyfocal intraocular lens in Poland.

Setting:

Department of Ophthalmology, Medical University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland.

Methods:

The analyzed group consisted of 22 eyes in 11 cataract patients (mean age 57.2±7.7 year) implanted with bioanalogic intraocular lens WIOL-CF (MEDICEM Technology s.r.o., Czech Republic). Follow-up was 24 months after surgery of second eye. All patients after uneventful bilateral implantation of same intraocular lens in one center (single surgeon). Binocular and monocular visual acuity for distance (Snellen optotype) intermediate (70cm) and near (40 cm) vision (reading table), subjective refraction and glare and halos rate analysis were analyzed.

Results:

In the analyzed group of 22 eyes surgery was done without complications. Mean post-operative binocular and monocular UCDVA was -0.03±0.09 and -0.01±0.07 logMAR respectively. Mean binocular and monocular UCNVA was 0.17±0.08 and 0.23±0.12 logMAR respectively. Mean binocular and monocular UCIVA was 0.11±0.09 and 0.16±0.13 logMAR respectively. Final mean SE refraction for far was 0.35D. Only 18% of patients reported mild glare/halo.

Conclusions:

The implantation of polyfocal, bioanalogic intraocular lens is an interesting option for patients who want to be independent of glasses after cataract surgery. WIOL-CF brings back full, natural vision via combination of multiple mechanisms of action that are similar to those of natural crystalline lens.
