Abstract Details

Purpose:

The purpose of the study is to analyze the results of ReLEx® SMILE on the basis of three indicators: UCVA, spatial contrast sensitivity (SCS), and subjective perception of the quality of vision based on questionnaires.

Setting:

SV. FYODOROV EYE MICROSURGERY COMPLEX, THE KRASNODAR BRANCH, RUSSIA

Methods:

Materials and methods. 46 operations for complex myopic astigmatism (SE - - 4.44 ± 0.43D) were performed on VisuMax® using ReLEx® SMILE technology. The examination of patients before and after the surgery included a standard method of visometry, a measurement of the SCS on the OPTEC 6500 device, and patient questioning. The questionnaire contained three criteria for estimation of visual quality by patients: in bright light, driving a car at night, playing sports.

Results:

Results. The indicators of the UCVA corresponded to the preoperative BCVA after 1-3 months postoperatively: 0.97 ± 0.2 and 0.96 ± 0.2 accordingly. The SCS parameters after 2 weeks corresponded to the preoperative level, and after 3-6 months - exceeded them (P≤0.01). In 6 months (P≤0.01) a higher level of patients’ satisfaction with visual quality was registered in 96.4% of cases

Conclusions:

Conclusions. A three-dimensional evaluation of the visual functions of patients after ReLEx® SMILE confirmed: this method for complex myopic astigmatism correction provides an increase in the level of the visual analyzer functioning in comparison with preoperative parameters.
