Dry eye is one of the most common referral causes of patients to eye clinics. Primary treatment is insufficient and may temporary relief symptoms. On the other hand, use of contact lens and refractive surgeries increases dry eye incidence. Dry eye on the resources of traditional medicine is discussed as ancient book 'Khoshoonat-Alqrnyh'. The purpose of this study was to investigate the Persian Traditional Medicine point of view on dry eye.

Collection of data has been performed in the library format for reviewing related literature regarding Persian Traditional Medicine and dry eye from Tehran University and Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences and through a search from Pubmed and google scholar till September 2017.

In this review, an overview of Persian traditional medicine resources about dry eye has been studied as the systematic review.

'Khoshoonat-Alqrnyh' is one of the ocular surface disease. In this disease, corneal dryness, loss of sharpness and saltiness may causes loss of moisture as well as loss of transparency and impairment of light to be transmitted, leading to symptoms such as feeling rough when blinking. Treatment include topical therapy (eye drops and poultice), special recipes and clearing responsible humors.

According to the findings of scholars of traditional medicine in dry eye and its various suggesting treatment modalities we hope to reach appropriate methods for dry eye evaluation and its treatment based on clinical trials.
